Common questions
Frequently Asked Questions
How is Homeland Vinyl manufactured?
Our products are manufactured using state-of-the art process called co-extrusion, which concentrates UV inhibitors on the exterior layer where they can combat the sun’s harmful rays. Co-extrusion is the manufacturing process that we use to molecularly bond the two ingredients into two layers. These layers are fused through extreme heat and pressure and cannot be physically separated.
Is vinyl fencing strong?
Our vinyl has 5 times the tensile strength and 4 times the flexibility of wood products. Under normal conditions and use, the fence will not break when installed properly. Vinyl fencing can break if subjected to direct impacts (e.g., motor vehicles running into a fence). Tongue and Grove fence slats can easily be replaced one at a time if needed.
Does Homeland vinyl chalk, fade, crack, or peel?
During the lifetime of the product you should not expect to see chalking, abnormal fading, cracking or peeling of our vinyl products.
Can you paint a vinyl fence?
It is not recommended to paint a vinyl fence and is designed to be maintenance free. Paint does not adhere well to vinyl and will peel off the surface with weather conditions. Painting vinyl will void the warranty.
What kind of maintenance does a vinyl fence require?
As will all exterior products, vinyl fencing will become dirty when exposed to the natural elements of the environment. You can normally spray them off with water and use a mild detergent to clean them off. Tough stains can usually be removed with baking soda or paint thinner and in some cases you may need to use a pressure washer.
How does vinyl fencing affect our environment?
Vinyl fencing or PVC is an inert material that does not transmit pollutants into the air or ground. Because you don’t have to paint a vinyl fence, no paint fumes pollute the air. In contrast, chemicals used to pressure treat wood products pollute the soil.
Will vinyl fencing yellow over time?
Homeland fencing products use the highest content (10 parts per 100 parts) of titanium dioxide (Ti02) and ultraviolet inhibitors, which have been proven to prevent yellowing in most applications. Some areas of the country with high heat and low humidity will require the fence to be sprayed down with water on occasion during periods of high heat and low precipitation. Normally any yellowing will go away after washing.
What colors are available?
Out standard colors are white, tan , beige, gray & khaki (adobe). These colors are available in most profiles.
Will vinyl fencing expand with temperature fluctuations?
Vinyl fencing will contract and expand with temperature fluctuations. This is normal and expected, and is factored in with the installation of the fence. Some installations can require the use of “U”-channel to help the darker color fences keep their shape during the extreme temperature fluctuations.
What about graffiti?
Most paint products can be removed from vinyl fencing using simple detergent and water if removed immediately. Sometimes it may require the use of a pressure washer. In tough cases, you can use a paint thinner or dry cleaning fluid.
What about mold and mildew?
Vinyl fencing can attract mold and mildew like other fence products if consistently exposed to damp weather conditions. They can be easily removed with simple detergent and water.
